This new Cd in the collection «Musical Heritage of the Jews of France»
focuses on the music of Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain (1492) and
Portugal (1497). Alberto Hemsi, born on June 27, 1898 to parents of
Italian nationality in Cassaba, Turkey, settled in Paris in the
fifties. This renowned musician was awarded numerous prizes. He has
left a vast array of musical works, of exceptional musical quality,
often unpublished. The Coplas Sefardies presented here offer a new
vision of the Jewish-Spanish oral tradition; magnified by the
composer’s personal creativity. This symbiosis between oral spontaneity
and written thought, traditional song and modern piano music, is
particularly well mastered in his work.
Pedro Aledo is a singer,
composer, author and painter. His artistic journey has led him through
varied musical experiences: variety, neo-classical, medieval, baroque
and, particularly, a deep involvement in the traditional music of the
Mediterranean area. He is accompanied by the talented pianist Ludovic
Amadeus Selim, holder of many awards and medals.
