Poursuivant sa quête du patrimoine breton, Yann-Fañch Kemener a retrouvé un trésor oublié : l’harmonisation par le grand compositeur des années 30, Charles Koechlin, du « Barzaz Breiz »  recueil de chants populaires collectés en Bretagne et publié en 1839.   Entre l’écrit et l’oral, la rigueur d ‘une composition «classique» et la liberté du chant «populaire», Yann-Fañch Kemener crée une œuvre actuelle, respectueuse du regard de chacun.  Dialogues de la voix, que l’on sait belle, et du chant des instruments, violoncelle et piano. Audacieuse entreprise, couronnée de succès, qui, pour sublimer la tradition, concilie l’inconciliable. (D’après Jacques Erwan).  Créé au Théâtre de Cornouailles à Quimper le spectacle «Dialogues», sera repris au Théâtre de la Ville-Les Abbesses (Paris) en mars 2007, puis en tournée.

 

Pursuing his quest for the Breton song heritage, Yann Fañch Kemener has come upon arrangements, by a  1930s’ composer,  of the «Barzaz Breiz», a collection of traditional songs gathered in 1839. Between oral transmission and written music, the exactness of classical composition and the freedom of traditional songs, Kemener reconciles the irreconciliable. This work is a dialogue between oral tradition and erudite music,  as well as a dialogue between the —beautiful— voice of the singer and the song of the instruments —cello and piano.
