The traditional singer Yann-Fanch Kemener is one of Brittany’s most
famous vocalists, and a prominent figure of the revival of the Breton
musical heritage. The talented cellist Aldo Ripoche comes from a
classical music background and has specialised in the baroque cello and
viola de gamba. This CD, «An Dorn» —the hand— is the result of their
research and meetings over the last four years. The voice of the
singer and that of the cello blend to perfection in their rendering of
laments, ballads, gwerziou, soniou, plinn etc, which never betray the
tradition. Lyrical by nature, baroque by choice, the five-string cello
accompanies the voice of the singer, underlying the poetry of the
lyrics of the rhythm.
