Live in Paris

Music of the world

The seven ladies of the Saucejas ensemble embody the traditions inherited from Latvia’s various regions. In full voice, they sing resonant, expressive open-air songs, the very same that young maids sung in choruses to celebrate the beauty of nature, the arrival of spring or the waning of summer, as well as songs that stimulated people’s efforts during collective tasks. Theirs is a huge repertoire of forgotten songs, among them some ancient ones producing surprising drone polyphonies. Powerful and beautiful, their voices unveil this little-known boreal heritage. This album was recorded live at Theâtre des Abbesses (Paris) where they performed on April 27, 2013.
