“The Silence of The Exodus” was first created on stage, on September 14, 2012, at La Dynamo de Banlieues Bleues in Pantin near Paris, for the Festival d’Île de France.
I conceived this piece as one unsegmented part: one hour of uninterrupted music.
The album remains faithful to that spirit. I haven’t changed anything to the musical composition, reproducing the same stage layout in the recording studio, maintaining acoustic starkness during the mixdown and following the same dynamics during mastering.
The fourteen track indexes on this album are therefore only meant to make it easier to (re)listen to parts and are in no way indications of 14 independant pieces. This is why I haven’t named them, only given them subtitles: they relate to the exodus that speaks to me, the one I feel distantly related to my history, my ancestors’ history and my own genealogical phantasmagoria: the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt, some 3300 years ago. Yet the essence of humanity lies in exoduses, epics and odysseys –therefore everyone is free to imagine new subtitles and reappropriate their own “silence of exodus”. Yom
