1965-1975 Golden years of Mombasa taarab This new collection presents Swahili popular music from the eastern coast of Africa, from Lamu, Mombasa, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and the Comoros. Archive recordings from the 1920s-1980s supplemented by contemporary recordings of special interest. Vol 1 pays a tribute to Ikhwani Sxafaa, Zanzibar’s (and probably Africa’s) oldest music club, celebrating its centenary in 2005. Vol 2 features Mzuri’s 1960s and 1970s recordings from the golden age of Mombasa taarab.
