Hailing from Norway, there comes a hip, five-piece fiddler band: three girls and two boys who, for the last ten years, have poured their youth and energy into the tradition. The absolute constraint they set for themselves when they started –only string instruments, no electronic gizmo– has remained until this day. In no way does it limit their fecund creativity and sharp sense of freedom: both are inherent to their music. Majorstuen has been weaving a repertoire of old melancholy melodies and powerful folk dances, along with original, dynamic compositions. With its frenzied polkas, elegant waltzes, sweet lullabies and spirited reinlenders, this first release in France revisits the repertoire of the band’s four albums to date. Today’s tradition radiates with charm and humour, exuding beautiful energy and some exuberance.
